Why are my scores estimates?

Our practice tests are our own, written to match the real SAT, so College Board has never published a scoring table for them. We turn the number of questions you got right into a section score from 200 to 800 with our own scoring tables, modeled on the ones College Board publishes for its practice tests. Your total runs from 400 to 1600, as on the real test.

Which second module you got matters too, because only the harder one can reach the top scores. A score here gives you a good idea of where you stand, but your score on test day can still come out higher or lower.

Took the real SAT? Add your official score on your account page. It helps us check how close our estimates come.

How does the second module work?

Each section, Reading and Writing and then Math, has two modules, each with its own timer. A Reading and Writing module has 27 questions in 32 minutes, and a Math module has 22 questions in 35 minutes.

Module 1 mixes easier and harder questions. When you submit it, the number you got right decides whether your Module 2 is the easier or the harder version. Each section is routed on its own. Both versions have the same number of questions and the same time, but only the harder one leads to the top scores, so give Module 1 your full effort.

The test doesn’t adjust within a module, so a hard question right after one you missed doesn’t mean anything changed. The lesson What the adaptive second module means for you goes further.

Why did a drill use questions from a practice test?

Drills start with questions written only for drills. When those run short for the skills and difficulty you picked, a drill can borrow questions from our practice tests.

Seeing a test’s questions early makes that test’s score less accurate, because you’d be answering some of them a second time. So a drill asks before it uses a test you haven’t seen any questions from, and it stops opening new tests when you’re down to your last few untouched ones. The Tests page shows how many of each test’s questions you’ve already seen in drills.

To keep a test fresh, drill a different skill or take that test first. Redoing questions from your Mistakes never uses up a test.

What if my connection drops during a test?

You can keep working. Your answers are saved as you go, and an answer that can’t reach us while you’re offline is sent again as soon as the connection is back. When you end a module, it waits until every answer has saved before it’s scored.

The module timer keeps running while you’re offline, as it does if you close the window, so reconnect as soon as you can. If time runs out before you reconnect, answers that hadn’t saved yet can’t count. If the tab closes or your computer restarts, open the test again from your dashboard. Your saved answers will be there.

How do I set extended time?

If College Board approved you for extended time, set the same here. On your account page, under Extended time, pick Time and a half (1.5x) or Double time (2x), then select Save changes.

Every module timer in a test you start after that is longer by the same amount, and so is the break between sections. Timed drills use it too. A test you’ve already started keeps the timing it began with.

How do I report a problem with a question?

Every question has a Report a problem link. In a test, it’s under More at the top of the screen. In drills, on your results, in Mistakes, and on the sample questions in lessons, it’s next to the question. Choose what’s wrong and send it, with a note if that helps. It comes straight to us.
